April has been a crazy busy month for me, but not so busy that I didn't get to start TED LASSO Season 3 with my boyfriend! I think it's fair to say that neither of us are thrilled with it -- it feels a bit contrived -- but it still features some of our favorite characters we fell in love with in seasons 1 and 2. We are especially loving the Jamie Tartt storyline, and Rebecca is as ravishing as ever.

I have started the first episode of the final season of the MARVELOUS MRS MAISEL (newsletter forthcoming), but have yet to find the time to really dig my teeth in! I'm thinking a solitary evening with a martini or cocktail would do the trick... :)

And last night I saw the first episode the 80's TV show MOONLIGHTING. Ben (my bf) is basically a child of the 80's even though he was born in the 90's so Moonlighting is one of the cult classics he grow up with featuring a young Bruce Willis and a fantastic leading lady, Cybill Shepherd! It's about a model with moxie (thank you Ben for that phrase) whose accountant takes all her money and leaves her with a defunct private detective agency, run by Willis. When a crime directly affects, they team up, despite their antagonistic relationship, to save their lives. Will they work together, gracing us with witty banter and repartee for 3 more seasons? I have yet to find out.

My boyfriend's family has the 3 seasons of Moonlighting on DVD, so it might become a Sunday night ritual for the next several weeks...

As far as movies go...

There's a movie theater in town called "The Venue" which shows random movies that aren't out in regular theaters. On Friday, we took a chance on an anime film SUZUME and we LOVED it. I highly recommend it and will most like give it its own newsletter. Themes include processing grief, natural disasters, and the forces behind them. Oh, and boys. Plenty of women supporting women in this one.

We watched RAISING ARIZONA with my best friend Alli -- this one is a Coen Brothers film and basically a live-action Looney Tunes, and we loved it. It features many incredible actors who went on to have great careers, such as Holly Hunter, Frances McDormand, and the one and only Nicholas Cage. I just couldn't believe how young he was and also how funny. Ben loves this one and can quote it extensively, but still hasn't seen O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU, which is absolutely top of our May watchlist.

Raising Arizona is great! I watched it with my parents the Christmas before last.

I finished Derry Girls in April (late to the game, per usual) and I already want to re-watch again. And I just started the Chosen! (Again….so late smh)

Ah! Derry Girls!! That is on my list of shows to write about. Truly obsessed. I got to rewatch a lot of it with Ben, but I don't think he's finished it yet. We need to get back on it!

And same -- haven't watched the Chosen yet. I've heard great things. Let me know what you think!

I’m sitting in Nitehawk about to watch *Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret*. Will report back!

I’m caught up on the new season of Maisel. I wasn’t even going to watch it honestly, because the last two seasons were so lackluster. But this season was getting good reviews, and I felt like returning to the show’s world. I’d say this is the best season since the first so far! I think a couple of critics nailed it when they said it’s really a workplace comedy about Midge’s and Susie’s relationship.

Oh fun!! Ben was just saying he wants to see that with me! Maybe we can get to theater this week! I do love Rachel McAdams <3

And that's so great to hear about Maisel! I love it when a show can go out with a bang! I agree - the last season was definitely interesting. I don't often read reviews of TV shows but if you've found a good one on Maisel, send it my way! Yeah, I absolutely adore Susie. She is brilliant.

Mandalorian season 3 was worth persevering through. There were a few tangential episodes lacking Grogu cuteness. Final episode was well worth the mid-season slog! Appreciated the religious themes, especially Mando's selflessness and dedication to the Way. There's a bit of a paedo / credo baptism debate elusion at the end...the writers probably didn't intend that!

I love everything about this comment. So much. Especially your first two sentences. First sentence says so much. Second sentence -- seriously, how is Grogu so cute? It's unreal! What's up next for you?

No plans for what's next...I also enjoyed Restaurants at the End of the World with Kristen Kish on Disney+. Episodes on Norway and Maine were my favorite. Turner Farm on North Haven Island in ME looks incredible. Definitely on my list next time I visit Heidi. It's not too far by boat from Rockland. You'd love the series! https://www.turner-farm.com/

I recently saw The Banshees of Inisherin. A bit weird but very intriguing. I’d recommend reading up on the history of the Irish Civil War a bit first, though!

Oh yes!! I watched that one somewhat recently too. Absolutely agree -- the back story of Banshees is definitely crucial... I think you would love reading one of my favorite books, Say Nothing!! One of the best nonfiction books I've ever read, and it's about the Troubles in the 80's and 90's to the present!
