Alright, ladies and gents — it’s been a crazy busy summer and I can’t believe tomorrow is September 1! So before we get swept up in Labor Day Weekend and the fall schedules, tell me what you’ve been watching this summer! What’s been good? What film or show has captured your heart or mind? Let’s chat in the comments! I’ll get it started!
We kicked off the summer with the newest Spider-Verse film and I *loved* it. The visuals were amazing and the story was great! So excited for the next one. It's important to note that the Spider-Verse films are Sony productions, not MCU/Disney, which is probably one reason I like them so much.
I also loved Barbie and Oppenheimer (no brainers there). Definitely two films that I will see again and keep thinking and talking about.
For TV, I watched the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and even though I wished there were more seasons, I thought Amy Sherman-Palladino wrapped it... well, marvelously! I've got a draft in the works about the Gilmores and the Maisels and the Palladinos. I'm a big fan.
I also LOVED the final season of Never Have I Ever! I think I might have watched it in a week. Didn't want it to end, but couldn't get enough. Also a draft in the works on that one. A massively underrated Mindy Kaling series on Netflix for sure!
I finished re-watching Derry Girls with Ben (we love-love-love this one). And now I'm in the middle of The Bear season 2! I've had mixed feelings about The Bear, but I think what this series does incredibly well is extended close-ups combined with long pauses. They really do not hold back with letting you feel the silence, and the energy flowing between actors, which honestly is so necessary because the other half of the show is Chicago-born cooks/family members yelling at and talking over each other.
Planning to watch: At some point I would like to get to the last season of Succession. But I'm also in a phase of life where I'm rewatching things I love with Ben, who still hasn't seen, for instance, The Crown. We're also ready for some Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan rom-com nights!
