Hello and welcome! This is an introduction to my newsletter, 2.0 version.
If you’ve been here before, thanks for staying along with me for this ride. I tried on a newsletter theme for size several months ago, and found I didn’t like it all that much. It wasn’t inspiring me. I didn’t want to keep wearing it. So I tossed it out. And I think I found another style that’s more focused and more spunky—honestly, more me—and I think it’s going to be fun.
If you’ve just arrived to this newsletter, thank you for joining us for the first time! My goal here is to create a little corner of the internet where I can share what I’m excited about, and hear what you’re excited about, too. I want this to be a conversation, a little forum, to discuss… what, exactly? Read on.
The other day I asked my work friends which television show I should watch next. I said that I love shows with strong female leads. That’s what keeps me emotionally invested in a show and coming back for more. Out of that conversation, my newsletter 2.0 emerged.
This is Leading Ladies with Heather Cate. We’re going to explore our favorite films and television series with strong female lead characters.
Does this mean only girls allowed? Or that there won’t be any thing of interest for the men here?
Absolutely not. If you know me, you know how I feel when people suggest that Little Women is for, well, women.
Women frequently enter the world of men and boys in storytelling. Men, we want you to enter ours. There’s so much to be enjoyed and learned from stories with strong female characters. To be frank, I don’t understand why young men wouldn’t want to read Little Women to get a peek behind the curtain, to understand how women dream, hope, desire, think, and relate to the world.
So please, don’t let the leading ladies scare you off! All strong men have a place here, too.
What you can expect from this newsletter:
I’ll be sharing semi-regular reviews, analyses, and discussion boards about Film & TV, both new and old, that feature strong female lead characters.
Got a show you want me to watch and review? Suggest it! Want to write your own review or analysis for me to publish here? Send it!
I’m experimenting with this new theme and we’re creating something together, so thank you again for joining!
Thoughts? Encouragements? Affirmations and validations? I’d love to hear it all!
I like it!!
Woooohooooo! I'm in!
